Jack Wagner Interviews

Bobby Darin

Audio File

Jack Wagner: Although we're concentrating on one of your current albums, Bobby, making records is by no means your only occupation. I read somewhere that in 1962 alone you made 5 movies, wrote several songs and who knows how many personal appearances in nightclubs. Do you have a favorite among these facets of show business or are they kind of all tied together?

Bobby Darin: I think kind of all tied together is an absolute correct expression, because I try to use each and every little thing I know in each field and try to make it come off. For example, in a nightclub, I'm not confined to just singing one type of song. In a motion picture I'm not an actor, an actor's actor, so to speak, with any great deal of training behind me, so I have to use a kind of personality approach, to the understanding of the role. I don't have a favorite, medium, so to speak, I'm kind of knocked out by all the beautiful things that have happened to me in the past few years and I'm not about to look any gift horse in the mouth and not about to put either or any aspect of it down.

JW: Bob is it possible after all this success that you still feel there is a goal to achieve?

BD: Oh there are many goals to achieve, Jack. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of things I have to do as a creative individual, certain things, like composing serious music, to me loom large as a future incentive. People can sit around and throw a little "Ho Ho" at that, but that is one of the plans I have for the future.

JW: Well, I would like to make the understatement of the year, Bobby and that is "So far so good."

    BD: Thank you.

( Bobby's record "Oh! Look At Me Now!" starts to play...)
